When the word 'jihad' is mentioned, many people immediately imagine war and violence. However, the meaning of jihad in Islam is far more comprehensive. Every Muslim has their own jihad to pursue, based on their abilities and situation.

Being Dutiful to Parents A man came to the Prophet and asked permission to join jihad. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked, 'Are your parents still alive?' The man replied, 'Yes.' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'Then strive for them (serve them).
Performing HajjNarrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), we see that jihad is the most virtuous deed. Should we (women) not engage in jihad?' The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, 'No. The best jihad (for you) is a Hajj Mabrur (an accepted pilgrimage).’
Speaking Truth to an Unjust Ruler The best jihad is speaking the truth (saying what is right) before an unjust ruler.
Seeking Knowledge and Educating Others Whoever comes to my mosque (the Prophet’s Mosque) with no intention other than seeking or teaching knowledge will have a status like that of a mujahid in the path of Allah. Whoever comes for any other purpose is merely like someone looking at other people’s belongings.
Fights Against Unlawful Desires The ( true ) mujahid is the one who fights his (unlawful) desires.
