Indeed, when one of you dies, their deeds come to an end, nd the life of a believer is not extended except for goodness.
Have you ever felt so exhausted with life that you thought, "I'd rather die than live like this"? This feeling might come when facing problems that seem unbearable, such as illness, poverty, or deep sadness.
Putting Life and Death in Allah's Hands Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: "None of you should wish for death because of a calamity that befalls him. However, if he wish for death, let him pray, 'O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die when death is better for me.'"
Allah knows best what the right time is for us. Whether it's better to live longer to do good deeds, or to be returned to Him before falling into sin. Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: " No one should wish for death. If someone is doing good, they can add to their good deeds, and if they've done wrong, they can still repent to Allah."
In Surah Al-A'raf: 34, Allah says: "For each community there is an appointed term. When their time arrives, they can neither delay it for a moment, nor could they advance it."
Sometimes when we hit rock bottom, heartbreak, failing an exam, losing someone we love, or struggling financially, we think "I wish I were dead."But Islam prohibits this not because Allah is indifferent to our pain—far from it. Allah knows our life still has meaning, there are still people who need us, there's still goodness we can contribute. What looks like a dead end to us might be the doorway to something better in Allah's eyes.
Many people think death is an escape from their problems. But death isn't a solution, it's a transition. We don't know what awaits us there, are we ready to face Allah with the deeds we have now? If we die now, we might actually lose out because we haven't had the chance to repent, to become better, or to apologize to those we've hurt. Living longer could be an opportunity to fix all of that.
If you often feel like dying or have suicidal thoughts, don't carry it alone. There's nothing wrong with seeking help, from a psychologist, counselor, or someone you trust. Allah gave us minds to seek solutions, and asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's proof that you're brave enough to face your problems.
