How do we know if the choices we make are right? How can we be sure that we are on the right path? It turns out that living in alignment with our values not only brings us peace, but also helps us find meaningful direction in life.

Say, 'O Allah, guide me to the right path and keep me steadfast upon the straight path.' When you mention true guidance, remember the right path. And when you think of the straight (path), remember the straightness of an arrow.
How do we know if the choices we make are right? How can we be sure that we are on the right path? It turns out that living in alignment with our values not only brings us peace, but also helps us find meaningful direction in life.
When You Know Yourself, Life Becomes Stronger When you truly understand what matters most in your life, like the values you hold, the dreams you're chasing, and the goals you want to reach, making decisions becomes so much easier. You're no longer confused about which relationships are worth keeping, which opportunities to take, or what direction you want your life to go. Even when facing tough times, you have something solid to hold onto that keeps you grounded. The more you know yourself and understand what truly means something to you, the easier it becomes to be fully yourself, without pretending, without being easily swayed, and without letting other people's expectations or pressure get to you.
People who have a clear sense of right and wrong, good and bad, and actually live by those principles tend to experience depression less often. Why is that? Because their lives align with the values they believe in. There's no internal conflict between what they believe and what they actually do.
Feeling Right Doesn't Mean You Actually Are Still, we need to be careful because sometimes we think we know what's right and wrong, but our compass might be off or misleading. So we end up thinking we're doing the right thing when we're really not. What makes it worse is we still see ourselves as good people, so nothing triggers us to question our actions and no guilt ever shows up. We keep feeling good about ourselves even though our behavior doesn't actually match up with what's truly right.
Islam teaches us to regularly do muhasabah, which is self-reflection. Ask yourself: "Am I better today than yesterday? Would Allah be pleased with what I did today? Have I been good to the people in my life?" This matters because without muhasabah, we can get trapped in our moral comfort zone, feeling like we're already good when we're actually still far from the standards Allah has set. Allah has already shown us what those true standards are, which are the Quran and Sunnah. So muhasabah isn't just a "feelings check," it's checking our actions against the clear standards from Islamic sources of law.
In Surah Al-A'raf: 52, Allah says: "We had certainly brought them a Book which We detailed by knowledge – as guidance and mercy to a people who believe."
