Normalize Mistakes, Perfection Is an Illusion

Words of the Prophetﷺ

No sensible person has lived without making mistakes, and no wise person gained wisdom without going through bad experiences.

We're often too hard on ourselves. Make one mistake, and we immediately feel like complete failures, as if all our efforts have been in vain. But hold on, no one grows without falling. Mistakes aren't the end of everything; they're opportunities for reflection and steps toward wisdom.

Take Action Through Self-Evaluation, Not Just Wishful Thinking Rasulullah(ﷺ) said: “A wise person is one who evaluates themselves and does good deeds for the life after death. While the weak person is one who merely follows their desires and has wishful thinking about Allah.”

Self-reflection is a moment where we pause to get to know ourselves on a deeper level, diving into the feelings, thoughts, and experiences that shaped us into who we are today. From there, we can better understand ourselves and start changing for the better.

Without Reflection: "Why do I get angry so often? Oh well, that's just how I am."With Reflection: "Why do I get angry so often? (pause for reflection) Oh, it turns out I get angry when I feel unappreciated. This might be because of my childhood experiences. In that case, I need to learn better communication instead of immediately getting angry."

How we often get stuck in the same problems over and over? Always fighting with the same type of people, always failing at the same things, or always feeling trapped in similar situations? That's a sign we never really reflect on ourselves. We just react without understanding why these problems keep repeating. Self-reflection is what helps us break out of this cycle, making us realize "Oh, it's not about them, it's about me repeating the same patterns."

Without reflection, we tend to blame things outside ourselves. "It's because of them," "It's the situation," "It's my bad luck." But with reflection, we stop being busy blaming others and start taking responsibility for ourselves. "What's my role in this problem? What can I control? What can I improve?" This isn't about blaming ourselves, it's about empowering ourselves—because if we played a part in the problem, that means we also have the power to fix it.

Don't Repeat the Same Mistakes Narrated by Abu Hurairah: Rasulullah(ﷺ) said: “A believer does not fall into the same hole twice.”

People who truly learn from their mistakes don't just feel regret, they actively work to not repeat the same mistakes. They ask themselves, "Why did I fall? What went wrong? How can I avoid this next time?" Then they change their behavior, set boundaries, or find new approaches so they won't fall again.
