Grateful in Blessings, Patience in Hardship

How to Stay Grateful

Words of the Prophetﷺ

How amazing is the affair of a believer! All of his affairs are good, and this is not the case for anyone except the believer. If something good happens to him, he is grateful, and that is good for him. If something harmful happens to him, he is patient, and that is good for him.

What did you feel when you woke up this morning? Did your mind immediately jump to the problems ahead, or did you take a moment to feel grateful for another day? Most of us forget that every breath, every heartbeat, is a gift we can't put a price on. Staying grateful when life gets busy and challenging isn't easy, but it's what makes the difference between a calm heart and a restless one.

Seeing Things from Different Perspectives Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: “If any of you sees someone who is above them in wealth and appearance, then let them also look at those who are below them.”

Scroll through social media for just five minutes, and we're immediately exposed to other people's seemingly perfect lives, overseas vacations, new cars, luxury homes, ideal bodies, or brilliant careers. Without realizing it, we start comparing our lives to theirs and feel like our lives are just ordinary, not as fortunate as theirs. But is this a fair way to judge our own lives? We only look upward at people who are wealthier, more successful, more "perfect." Yet if we want to be fair, we should also look down, at those who don't have homes, who struggle to eat daily, who are sick but can't afford treatment. Seeing both sides is what makes us more realistic and more grateful.

Feeling Content Rasulullah (ﷺ) said: “Wealth is not about having a lot of possessions, but true wealth is contentment with oneself.”

Appreciating Allah's Blessings “Whoever among you wakes up in the morning safe in their home, healthy in their body, and has food for the day, it is as if the entire world has been gathered for them.”

Waking up safely in the morning, sleeping in a secure place, a body that can still move without pain, having food for the day seems totally ordinary. But let's think about it for a moment, what's the price of sleeping peacefully without fear? What's the price of a healthy body that lets us go about our daily activities normally? what does it cost to just have a full stomach? These aren't small things. This is the foundation of a decent life.
