Inviting to Islam with Ease and Good News

Religion is Easy, Don't Make It Hard on Yourself

Words of the Prophetﷺ

Make things easy for people in matters of religion and do not make them difficult. Give them good news and do not make them run away (from Islam).

Have you ever felt burned out from worship? Praying night prayers every day until exhausted, fasting so often you feel weak, or attending Islamic lectures back-to-back until you have no time to rest? You feel like you have to do everything, or else your sins will pile up. Yet your body is already tired, your mind is stressed, and your worship becomes less sincere.

Prophet's Guidance on Worship Within Your Capacity Narrated by Aisyah (Radiallahu Anha): Whenever the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded the Muslims to do something, he always commanded them to do what was easy for them (according to their strength and patience).

Don't Burden Yourself in Religion The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Religion is easy, and whoever burdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue. So do not be extreme, but try to come close to perfection and receive the glad tidings that you will be rewarded. Strengthen yourselves by worshiping in the morning, in the evening, and at the end of the night."

If someone forces themselves to pray tahajjud every night until they only sleep 3-4 hours, then their concentration at work during the day declines, or their obligatory prayers are rushed and lack focus, then without realizing it, the extra act of worship (sunnah prayer) is actually reducing the quality of their main obligations. Performing sunnah acts of worship is certainly good and encouraged. However, it should not interfere with your main priorities. When sunnah worship causes obligations to be neglected or their quality to decline, what needs to be evaluated is not the intention, but the method (the frequency, duration, and timing need to be adjusted to your capacity).

There is a hierarchy in worship: Fardh (Obligatory) > Sunnah Muakkadah (Emphasized Sunnah) > Sunnah Ghair Muakkadah (Regular Sunnah). If you're so busy with sunnah (voluntary worship) that you neglect fardh (obligations), that's wrong. For example: Staying up for tahajjud prayer but then oversleeping Fajr, or fasting so much voluntary fasts that you have no energy to work and provide for your family (which is an obligation). Rearrange your priorities, don't let voluntary acts of worship interfere with your core obligations.

Don't judge others just because they don't do as many sunnah acts as you do. Don't make others feel guilty for not doing every sunnah. "You don't pray tahajjud? Astaghfirullah!" "You don't fast Mondays and Thursdays? Such a waste of reward!" This creates unnecessary pressure and actually makes people stressed, not closer to Allah. Islam is about peace and balance, not anxiety and guilt. Besides, everyone's journey and circumstances are different. Maybe person A works full-time with overtime, or person B has young children to care for. Just do what you're capable of according to your circumstances.

In Surah Al-Ma'idah: 6, Allah says: "Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful."
